Update: our best stocks this year(so far)

Let’s just take a moment and be happy that the main share of our portfolio is doing really well this year(forget Arcadis). So far Activision Blizzard(Atvi) is taking the lead, thanks to their earnings.

We have bought a fair amount of shares in Nokia after a really convincing presentation by Gandarv Arora. He focused mainly on the products they currently have in development and assured us that Nokia is making a comeback. So far he has been right because the share price is up since last week.

On March 20 we will have a very special meeting. Utz Weitzel, professor in Finance and Financial Markets, will talk about his own investing insights and experiences, insights from professionals in the field and his own research. He will probably also give us some feedback on our portfolio!

Happy New Year!

This might be a little late, but better late than never: happy New Year and let’s hope for a good (investing)year!

If you missed the meeting last Monday, or are really interested in what subjects we talk about during our meetings, check out the Powerpoint slides of the last meeting.  During the meeting we had a small presentation on FinTech by Alexander Mckinney. He will be back in a few weeks to talk about his finance master and teach us an asset pricing model.

Merle Rüder, a longtime BVVK member, had her last meeting with us last Monday. She will be moving to Frankfurt for an internship at a company that specializes in M&A. We wish her all the best and success in her future endeavors.

Our Portfolio

Unilever is one of our ‘oldest’ companies. It has been in our portfolio for more than four years. In this post we would like to show you what our other investments are, and how much we have invested in them compared to our total portfolio value.

ETF’s (equity)

  • Rabobank                                                  7%

  • Euro                                                           11%

As some of you might have noticed we have decided to take a small position in Arcadis NV after Douwe Epema proposed this during our Monday meeting.

It will be interesting for us to look at our asset allocation as currently 82% of our portfolio is invested in equity. Should we invest more in other assets such as bonds, gold or even Bitcoin? It will be food for discussion during our upcoming meetings.

Are you a student at Utrecht School of Economics and do you think you can add to this discussion? Send us an e-mail and we will invite you to one of our meetings!

Meeting 24th October

We had a really interesting meeting yesterday. We started with a small lecture from our senior investor, Wouter Adolfsen, and a financial update from our treasurer, Bertram van der Aa.

After that Navid Meyer gave us a presentation on our recent purchase Facebook. Navid managed to take away some of the concerns members had about Facebook. We will be actively following developments related to our new purchase.

With a lot of cash in our account it was time to look for new investment opportunities.  After a proposal from Marc van Loon and Yael Potjer we decided it was time for us to buy ETF’s. Today we purchased 45 shares of the iShares MSCI Switzerland ETF and 16 shares of the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Asia ETF.

Last but not least, Diederik Koopman convinced, in a really unique presentation, enough members that Lucas Bols is a good investment. Today we bought 60 shares of Lucas Bols.

We have a website! Of course this website has already been around for several years but it looked terrible and was rarely updated.  We improved the website and from now on we will regularly update you on our activities and meetings. We found a really cool article deep in our archives while we were updating this website. In 2010 we were interviewed by Het Financiële Dagblad( the Dutch Financial Times). You can find the article here:
